Frequently Asked Questions
Does Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy have other names?
Yes! Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is also referred to as Myofunctional Therapy and Orofacial Myology.
What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?
OMT is a natural, specialized treatment that focuses on correcting muscle function of the mouth & tongue. It involves exercises designed to restore nasal breathing, swallowing, and overall oral health, particularly for those struggling with sleep disordered breathing or related issues. LEARN MORE
How long does therapy take?
The duration of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy varies based on individual needs. Typically, virtual sessions last between 30-45 minutes, and the overall treatment plan may span several weeks to 12 months depending on your needs and goals.
Who can benefit from this therapy?
Both adults and children can benefit from this therapy by identifying and correcting Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) – abnormal movement or rest patterns of the face and mouth that interfere with correct tongue posture, correct mouth posture, nasal breathing, and/or correct, normalized swallowing. Correcting OMDs early in children allows for proper craniofacial and airway development.
What results can I expect?
While individual results vary, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can improve breathing, chewing, and swallowing, reduce jaw pain/headaches, decrease anxiety, and improve facial aesthetics. Many clients report significant improvements in their overall well-being.
Do you take insurance?
I do not partner with insurance companies as an in-network provider so that I can provide the highest quality treatment tailored to your specific needs and goals. However, I am happy to provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance carrier.
